A friend of mine in Singapore has a small business in Jakarta, Indonesia which makes and delivers sushi. For the Muslim celebration of the holy month of Ramadan and the following Hari Raya, or Eid festivities, my friend requested that I come up with visuals for a festive rebranding, which included packaging design and Instagram promotional teasers.

My concept for the visuals derived from my thought of how to integrate elements Indonesian and Japanese culture together harmoniously. I decided to create batik patterns out of images of sushi. Batik is a very highly-regarded artform in Indonesia's traditions and its mesmerising patterns are also an interest of mine.

Overall it was a very interesting experience for me to create new patterns, especially for my design work.

"Satay (skewered meat), rendang (spicy dry beef curry) and opor ayam (chicken coconut gravy)..."

"...so much variety of festive dishes..."

"...yet it is sushi that we happily feast on."
