How Ancient Philosophy Guides Us Through Modern Chaos is an interactive web story created during the height of the global pandemic in 2020. That particular year struck me as an exceptionally challenging time due to the extended periods of time spent under lockdown, with news and social media serving as a way to connect and remain informed about the outside world. However, I began noticing how drained I was absorbing all this negativity on a daily basis.
News of a series of global protests which occurred later that year did nothing to alleviate this gloomy feeling. Despite the relative social isolation most people were experiencing, I decided to deactivate my social media accounts as well as avoid tuning in into the news.
This web story consists mainly of a writeup about this experience, and how I turned to Stoicism as a philosophy to cope with feelings of being overwhelmed. Interlaced with the text are a series of animated digital photo montages that illustrated the various parts of the essay. Overall, the one page format of this web story including the visuals aimed at giving the reader an immersive experience into the headspace that I was in at that time.
